FAQ

 FAQ

  • I'm worried about my grades in middle school, and I want to take Pre-AP classes. Can I do all that and take Choir?
Of course. We have LEAP students, students taking Pre-Advanced Placement courses, students who participate in athletics in-school & out-of-school .and we want them in these programs. We want all of our students to do well in their courses. We encourage them to succeed, we help them find other students to serve as tutors, and we support them when they struggle. Choir is a great place to be when you need to find someone to lend you a hand.

  • Choir is going to keep me awfully busy, though, isn't it?
Only if you want it to. We rehearse together every day in class. Students are required to attend only a handful of performances and dress rehearsals each year, and they are spread out over the entire school year.

  • Does it cost a lot of money to be in Choir?
Choir doesn't cost more than most electives on our campus. There is a yearly supply fee in the fall and a simple uniform. We hold annual fundraisers and ask families to support the Choir to defray student costs and supplement our limited budget.

  • We get 2 electives and I want to be in band or orchestra, too. Can I still register for Choir?
Yes, yes, YES! Students can take Choir and any other elective they choose! Middle school is a place to try out new things and if you are a young musician, Choir will compliment either instrumental ensemble while expanding your musicianship skills.

  • I just made football (volleyball, cheerleading, etc). Do I have to give up choir?
Absolutely! Students can be involved in Choir and cheerleading, Choir and athletics, Choir and drama..any combination you want. We have choir kids in soccer, basketball, track, gymnastics, baseball, football, dance and all kinds of other things. If you want to do it, it can be done.

  • Do we just sing?
Although our main purpose is making music together, Choir is a great place to make friends in middle school, too. We have many activities throughout the year like parties, movie night, going to Six Flags, social events and field trips to see the opera, symphony & Dallas Summer Musicals. We also go to a spring choral competition that includes a "day of fun" activity!

  • I want to be a Choir Member at Briarhill. What should I do?
: That's fabulous! Please indicate Choir as your first or second choice on your class registration sheet. In the summer, look for a Welcome Letter which will include information about 2010-11, Briarhill Choir Booster Club and our Parent Meeting. See you at Pup Camp in August!
