Music instruction is a vital part of a well rounded education and assists students in developing higher level thinking skills, goal setting, and self-esteem. Choir is an active, team oriented, participation-based class where students have the opportunity to develop their musical talents and experience success.
Beginning Choir is open to any 6th grader interested in becoming a member of the ensemble; prior choral experience is not necessary. Students will learn proper vocal technique, fundamentals of music reading, solfeggio, music theory and music notation. They will gain experience singing different styles of music such as songs from various cultures & countries, spirituals, Broadway show tunes, pop songs and sacred literature while singing in 2-part, 3-part and 4-part harmony. Students will also experience singing in different languages as well as singing in English. Performance opportunities throughout the year include concerts, Choral Festivals, LISD Solo and Ensemble Contest, community events and All-District Choir.
Through diligent study, intensive rehearsal, and focused performance, singers at Briarhill will give a voice to excellence in vocal and choral music, both as individuals and as members of an ensemble.
